Earlier today, the Whitehouse posted some blog about who gives a shit what. In it they showed a graph that clearly proves why President Obama is awesome.
Check this graph out:
I deleted the X- and Y-axis information because those are meaningless details.
Look how much negative RED there was before Obama took office! And then look at how much positive BLUE he created!
If anyone ever asks you, “Why did you vote for Obama..?” You show them this graph and say THAT’S WHY!
All kidding aside, the real graph indicates the number of United States private sector jobs that were added since Obama took office in 2008. According to the White House, 10 million private sector jobs were added in the past four and a half years.
What bothers me isn’t the report of positive news coming from the Obama administration, but the gimmicky way they display the statistics. Even with good news, the government tries to market it to the people like it’s a brand, new Lexus.
Why not show the statistics and bars on the graph in black, grey, and white, like how Britannica Encyclopedia or your high school textbook would.
In marketing we learn how to put lipstick on a pig and sell it to the highest idiotic bidder who doesn’t know any better that he could just as easily buy that pig without the lipstick for half the price at a Stop & Shop. And this is exactly what Whitehouse.gov is doing with this graph.
Why did they use the classic red and blue colors on the bars…? Because those add shock value to the graph.
So I have a message for Washington: We are not your consumers and YOU ARE NOT IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL! Stop drawing on bar graphs with your crayons like it’s some 2nd-grader’s coloring book!
